Tout d’abord la qualité de l’édition qui est indéniablement au dessus de la majorité des mangas et sur la qualité des dessins de Kuaoru Mori.
L’histoire quant à elle est une bluette qui n’a pas grand intérêt mais le contexte historique est beaucoup plus intéressant et très documenté: la vie Londonienne du XIXème siècle.
Cela raconte le coup de foudre amoureux d’une jeune servante Emma avec un jeune bourgeois, fils de gros commerçant, William, dont le père vise une ascension sociale via son mariage.
Les péripéties amoureuses ne sont intéressantes que par les dessins extrêmement fouillés de Kuaoru Mori.
Les visages sont très expressifs avec de nombreux détails mais aux traits simples.
Le plus impressionnant ce sont les détails de scènes de la vie Londonienne, la rue, les réceptions, la scène du bal ou encore la magistrale illustration de l’exposition universelle.
Ce Manga est en effet passionnant par la qualité de représentation des événements de l’époque, l’arrivée de l’automobile et le mode de vie dans les différents milieux sociaux.
En ce qui concerne les personnages, les 2 principaux ne sont pas arrivés à m’émouvoir, j’ai préféré les personnages annexes comme le mystérieux Hakim ou la maîtresse d’Emma, très touchante.
En conclusion, je recommande ce Manga pour ses qualités graphiques incontestables et la qualité d’illustration du contexte historique.
Rien que pour ces raisons, j’achèterai la suite, le tome 2 d’Emma.
