C’est l’histoire d’un road trip improbable d’une jeune femme de 36 ans qui vient d’être quittée par son mari et qui part, accompagnée du jeune fils de sa meilleure amie Tumi, 4 ans, sourd et presque aveugle, sur l’unique route autour de l’Islande vers l’est . Vers la recherche de son passé, vers la quête de sens de sa vie…
Elle, que son mari à quitté, entre autres parcequ’elle ne voulait pas d’enfants se retrouve à apprivoiser ce petit bonhome avec qui la communication est une gageure.
Cette femme, traductrice de métier, qui parle 11 langues, semble connaître des problèmes de communications avec ceux qu’elle aime…
Ce voyage autour de l’Islande en novembre sous une pluie constante est comme
une thérapie, une réflexion sur ce que doit être sa vie, sur ce qu’elle a été, ses traumatismes de l’enfance évoqués par touches elliptiques.
Impossible de parler de ce livre sans parler de la présence puissante de la nature.
Connaissant ce pays fascinant et étrange que j’ai eu la chance de visiter, ce livre prend une force d’évocation incroyable quand on connaît les paysages parfois lunaires de la lande islandaise.
Vous l’avez compris, j’ai adoré voyager avec ces personnage si sensibles, attachants et complexes dans ce pays fascinant…
Un dernier mot sur l’ecriture fluide et l’humour toujours présent de ce roman.
Encore un livre que je vais conseiller et offrir souvent cette année…
